March is fun. Here are some things that are making me happy:
My brother turned 31 and my mom put together the perfect birthday weekend in Willmar.
I started playing pickleball more regularly and I haven’t been this excited about something in a while.
I found my dream coffee table on Facebook marketplace for about $150 less than I’ve seen elsewhere. I will take cuter pictures later but come on!
We have big dreams for this room so it was fun to treasure hunt for the perfect piece. We haven’t been doing much furniture shopping this past year so this felt like an extra big deal.
I gained 2 new writing clients and they are both ongoing and in industries I care about.
I’ve been sleeping well.
We finished a project that’s been in the works for MONTHS. We had these holes in our siding from where we removed wall AC units and finally finished patching them. Right behind Jordan’s chair, you can see some beautiful plywood.
And now you don’t.
And soon this spot will be filled with our firewood for the spring season!
My birthday is on Thursday and I will be entering the last year of my twenties. I’m feeling ready. I get to celebrate with my frands this weekend.
We are headed to our home away from home the following weekend, Chicago! We’re visiting our besties, Katelyn, Duncan, and Martin (in that order). We love getting down there to see them. It’s the best.
My wishlist is short. I feel like I have everything I need.
Weekly Report -
R: Reading -
I’ve been researching small self-published poetry books, for no reason of course, and I found Jennae Cecelia. With my birthday being later this week, this poem stuck out to me:
will this be the year? i'm not really sure. i only know for certain what is happening right now. that my coffee tastes perfect. the sunlight is flooding the kitchen with golden beams. a friend just texted me a book she thinks i should read. and it might not seem like much, but it's now. and that's everything.
E: Eating -
I eat at Centro often (non-MPLS people, it’s an industrial-Mexican restaurant) and it’s good but I behave like it’s world-renowned. My family went on Saturday, and given, I’ve had a few *beverages* at this point, but they added a new version of my favorite item and I lost my mind over it…
They make a guilt-free crunch wrap and they recently released a CHICKEN VERDE version and yes, it was excellent. I’m still thinking about it. I fear it’s temporary, but it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
P: Playing with -
A friend from high school, Tayva Heo of The Spicy Heo, taught us how to prepare and package kimchi this weekend and it’s kind of a crazy process! She has spent years perfecting her kimchi recipe and we were lucky enough to snag a spot at her sold-out class where she shared it all with us! Follow her Instagram because she posts the best recipes. Anyway, everyone can expect to receive a jar of our homemade kimchi for years to come because we are obsessed.
O: Obsessed -
Besides kimchi, recently I have been obsessed with a herb garden we started a few weeks ago. Some are beginning to sprout and it’s such an exciting time of the year. Once these herbs are big enough to get transferred to pots, we plan on starting vegetable seeds in there next.
This is our first time using this herb garden but so far we are impressed! It would be great for an apartment because the light panel can be raised as your plants grow.
R: Recommending -
Take a class/attend a community event. I know breweries often and free/cheap activities like planting succulents or tie-dye. Activities are fun. Take advantage of what your community puts out there.
T: Trying -
If a task takes under 2 minutes, just do it right away. Jordan heard from someone at work that they’re trying to do this so now I am too.
Original Words -
It’s not a new chapter, it’s a whole new book.
Maybe even a new genre.
There is more light than dark
but I still love a gloomy orua.
My body is healing and my brain is gentle
My hands are creating again.
This is who I am and where I’m at
It could all change but I’ll deal with it then.
Journal Prompt -
I love a good brain dump journal prompt, so I made a list of things I feel I inherited from members of my family or friends I’ve had for a long time. It’s eye-opening to see how people influence you.
Talk to you next week. Until then, be good!
